Homework

Homework is an important part of learning and enables students to develop their independence and resilience across the curriculum.

We believe that homework is an essential part of every student’s education, helping to reinforce learning, develop independent study skills and prepare students for assessments and future success. Completing homework regularly builds personal responsibility, supports organisation and strengthens understanding of key concepts.

What does homework look like at Lift Bexleyheath?

Ms Stephens-Kobewka talks through the homework platforms at Lift Bexleyheath.

Overview

Homework is important to support students with:

• Consolidating what they have learnt at the school and to help them remember knowledge and skills
• Developing independent study skills
• Time management skills

Homework at Lift Bexleyheath

The homework strategy at Lift Bexleyheath is based on the following principles: Homework will be set on a regular weekly cycleHomework will be used to revise/revisit previously learnt material, using an interleaving approachHomework will utilise high-quality existing resources Homework will be centrally set and monitored at KS3 and KS4

Sparx Maths

Sparx Maths creates perfectly tailored practice homework for each student each week driven by our curriculum in maths. The practice is challenging, to ensure students need to think and, crucially, achievable so that students can be successful. It also ensures the practice uses spaced repetition and interleaving to support a change in students' long-term memories. Sparx Maths is inclusive and can adapt to all students' current level of expertise. This promotes engagement, confidence and ultimately learning.

Students must complete all the tasks which are assigned to them each week to complete their homework.

Sparx Science

Sparx Science creates perfectly tailored practice homework for each student each week which is set using the curriculum in science. The program builds scientific knowledge and understanding. The practice is challenging, to ensure students need to think and, crucially, achievable so that students can be successful. The questions test students knowledge and their ability to apply this to exam-style questions. It also ensures the practice uses spaced repetition and interleaving to support a change in students' long-term memories. Sparx Science is inclusive and can adapt to all students' current level of expertise. This promotes engagement, confidence and ultimately learning.

Students must complete all the tasks which are assigned to them each week to complete their homework.

Sparx Reader

Sparx Reader is an online reading platform that builds confidence in reading through regular reading practice. The platform helps students to practise reading regularly, to set them up for success at secondary school and in life beyond. As students read books, they answer quick questions to check that they've been reading carefully. You might think that this interrupts their reading, but it's really important. It helps them stay engaged with the story and earn Sparx Reader Points so they can climb the league table and compete with others.

Students must earn 300 Sparx Reader Points to complete their homework.

Languagenut

Languagenut is a comprehensive language learning programme which aligns with the secondary curriculum for Spanish. It provides practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking to support students in their progress towards Spanish GCSE. The platform ensure students build confidence with learning new vocabulary and grammar. There are competitions and challenges for students to participate in to encourage motivation. Feedback is also given immediately to students to support their learning.

Students must complete all the tasks which are assigned to them each week to complete their homework.
