Post-16 Bursary at Lift Bexleyheath
At Lift Bexleyheath Sixth Form, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their financial situation. The 16–19 Bursary Fund is designed to support students who may need financial help to stay in education.

What is the 16–19 Bursary Fund?
The fund provides financial assistance to help with costs such as:
- Travel to and from school
- Essential books, equipment, or specialist clothing
- Trips or enrichment activities that are part of your course
- Meals during the school day
There are two types of bursary available:
Vulnerable Bursary – up to £1,200 a year for students who meet specific government criteria, including:
- Young people in care or care leavers
- Students receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
Students receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance (or Personal Independence Payment)
Discretionary Bursary – financial support for students facing genuine financial hardship. This is allocated based on household income and individual circumstances.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the bursary, you must:
- Be aged 16–19 on 31 August of the academic year you are applying for
- Be enrolled at Lift Bexleyheath Sixth Form
- Meet the criteria set out for either the Vulnerable or Discretionary bursary

What's our personal development and extra curricular offer?
Building Futures Through Enrichment and Experience
Our Personal Development curriculum supports students’ growth beyond the classroom, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values needed for life after sixth form. Covering well being, relationships, employability, financial literacy, digital responsibility, and citizenship, the programme helps students become confident, resilient, and socially responsible young adults.
In Year 12, all students take part in a work experience placement, giving them the opportunity to explore potential career paths, develop workplace skills, and strengthen future applications.
Beyond the classroom, students contribute to the wider community through volunteering opportunities. Our strong links with local primary schools and a care home allow them to give back through mentoring, support, and service. Sixth formers also support our Extra Curricular prep sessions, helping younger students improve their maths and reading skills, while developing their own confidence, communication, and leadership skills.
Enrichment opportunities include weekly PE lessons and access to the professional- standard Goals Soccer Centre and we have a partnership with Falconwood FC. Students also have the opportunity to run their own mini enterprise, gaining practical business experience and reinvesting profits into the sixth form.
Through this combination of academic study, enrichment, practical experience, and community involvement, our curriculum prepares students for success in further education, employment, and life beyond sixth form.

Building Skills, Confidence, and Resilience
We have hosted a wide range of workshops featuring guest speakers from diverse organisations. Highlights include motivational sessions with James Aidoo from Innerscope, guidance from universities on student finance and UCAS applications, workshops led by Solace and other mental health organisations, and participation in The Brilliant Club. Students have also benefitted from specialist career talks, including sessions with physiotherapists and representatives from the Lovell Construction Group, providing insights into a variety of career pathways. The school further supports students through external tuition, mentoring, and coaching programmes, ensuring our young people have the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive.

This year, our Year 13 students have secured places at some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and a wide range of leading Russell Group institutions across the country.
We are equally proud of those who have chosen alternative pathways, with students successfully gaining highly competitive degree and higher-level apprenticeships at renowned organisations such as JP Morgan, Amazon, Mercedes, and BlackRock.

How do I decide which subjects to study in sixth form?
We understand that deciding which subjects to study in Year 12 is difficult and therefore we advise the following:
- Read the specification for each subject you are interested in.
- Talk to your subject teacher/s about the subject at Sixth Form level; do not assume you know about a subject because you have studied it in Year 11.
- Look at the content and type of assessments that will take place (e.g. Does the subject have coursework? Is the subject entirely exam-based?)
- Be aware of your predicted grades at GCSE and read the Entry Requirements for each subject carefully.
- Talk to the Careers Teacher/Adviser, particularly if you have a specific career in mind. Some careers specifically request certain subject combinations and it is important that you know this before you embark on your course of study.
- Read University Prospectuses looking at degree courses which may already interest you. Think ahead as some degree courses favour certain subject combinations. Sixth Form Staff will also advise you about University requirements. The UCAS website is a useful starting point for any research.
- Talk to your parents about your intended choices. They want you to be successful in your Sixth Form choices so involve them in your decision-making.
- In listening to the advice given, you must remember that it is you who will be following the courses. The key to success – is that you must want to do the subjects you finally choose to do.

What is the sixth form uniform?
At Lift Bexleyheath Sixth Form, we believe that high standards of dress reflect the high standards we set for learning and behaviour. Our dress code is designed to prepare students for the professional environments they will enter after Sixth Form, while also giving them the opportunity to express themselves in a smart and appropriate way.Why We Have a Uniform Expectations? Our dress expectations encourage students to take pride in their appearance, build self-confidence, and develop the professional habits that will serve them well in further education, training, and employment.Support with UniformWe recognise that clothing can be a financial pressure. Students who may struggle to meet the dress code can apply for support through the Post-16 Bursary Fund (see our financial support page for more details).
- All Sixth Form students should be dressed in clothing suitable for an office environment.
- Blazers or jackets must be worn by Sixth Form students.
- Clothing must not be skin tight or revealing.
- Skirts must be knee length or lower.
- Sixth Form students wishing to wear Islamic clothing must not wear bright colours; these must also not be embellished.
- Sixth Form students are permitted to wear jewellery; however, this must be removed when taking part in a physical activity that could cause harm such as Drama, Sports, etc.
- Sixth Form students must wear footwear which is professional. Shoes must be polishable. Sixth Form students must not wear open toed shoes or sandals.
- Sixth Form students are permitted to wear makeup; although the makeup should not be excessive.

What are the entry requirements for the sixth form?
All students must achieve 5 or more GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications at Grade 4 or above (including Maths and English).
There are three pathways available to our students, depending on their GCSE grades:
- Academic Pathway (A-Levels)
- Combined Programme (A-Levels & Technical Qualifications)
- Vocational Pathway (Technical Qualifications)

What university preparation and support is available?
The sixth form team provides extensive guidance for students applying to university. Support includes help with choosing universities, writing personal statements, financial planning and navigating the UCAS process. We also offer mock interviews for competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Oxbridge applications. Additionally, we work with outreach departments from leading universities to make sure students are well-prepared for higher education.
