End-of-Term Arrangements | Term One ends on Friday, 17 October, at 15:10.
Year 11 Weekly Newsletter | Please find the Year 11 Newsletter here.
Fixtures Next Week | The sports fixtures for next week are:
Families would have been contacted if their child is involved in a fixture. If you have any question about the fixtures, please contact Mr Sheehan, Faculty Director for Sports (tsheehan@liftbexleyheath.org).
Donations to Sports | As the cost of sports gear keeps rising, some families are finding it harder to afford the basics, like a good pair of football boots. If you have any old boots gathering dust at home, why not give them a second life? Donate them to the PE department, and together we can make sure every student has the chance to play, learn, and feel part of the team. Every pair makes a difference! If you have any sports kit or equipment that you would like to donate to the school, we would be happy to accept these.
Team Kit Sponsorship | At Lift Bexleyheath, we’re proud of our students’ incredible sporting success, and we want every team to have a kit they can truly be proud of, one that reflects their sport and their hard work, without adding any extra cost for students or families. We’re currently looking for local businesses or individuals who would like to sponsor one of our football teams. In return, sponsors will receive fantastic exposure across the borough through our teams’ achievements, events, and community presence. If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor or learning more, please get in touch with Mr Sheehan, Faculty Director of Sports (tsheehan@liftbexleyheath.org) we’d love to see how we can work together to support our students and celebrate community pride.
Parents' Evening for Term 01 | We’ve received a few questions regarding staff availability during Year 07 Parents’ Evening appointments. Next half term, we will be holding two Parents’ Evening events. During these two weeks, Year 07 families will only be able to book the remaining available appointments but only on the week of the event and this is when these will be open to the Year 07 families. This approach will ensure that more appointment slots are available for families in other year groups.
The Parents' Evening appointments for next half-term are as follows:
A reminder that due to implementing face-to-face Parents' Evening events and to provide further opportunities to meet with staff, the school day on Wednesday will end at 14:10. Students in Year 11 who are sitting their Sociology mock examination will leave straight after this ends.
In it, to win it! | We will be running 'In it, to win it' through the week. All your child has to do to enter is be in school!
Extra-Curricular | KS3 Band Club | This term, the KS3 Bands Club has been buzzing with excitement and creativity under the dynamic leadership of Mr Wanderema. Open to all Key Stage 03 students, the club has become a lively hub where young musicians can pick up everything from electric guitars and drums to keyboards, building confidence, teamwork, and a real passion for performance.
Each week, students come together to rehearse as a band, learning the art of ensemble playing, following musical cues, and performing as a cohesive group. Ms Wanderema adds her vocal expertise to the mix, leading engaging warm-ups that help students master breathing techniques and crisp pronunciation.
This week, the club has been getting into the festive spirit, working on holiday pieces and learning to sing in harmony. Through fun and accessible techniques, like layering vocal lines and exploring how different notes blend, the students are discovering the joy of making music together.
Masterclasses | Expanding Minds Beyond the Classroom | This week, students were treated to an inspiring scientific exploration led by Ms Kobewka, who delved into innovative ways we can combat global warming, sparking thoughtful discussion and curiosity across the room.
Next week, we’re thrilled to welcome Ms Luthfa, who will be opening a discussion to answer the following question “Which geometric shape is the most important?” From geometry and art to nature and community, this fascinating talk will explore how circles connect science, creativity, and life itself. The masterclass will be taking place on Wednesday at 08:00 in the main hall.
New Style Reports | You provided feedback about our termly reports providing limited feedback on student progress. We have listened to this feedback and we have designed a new report which provides a more detailed and easier to digest overview of your child's progress. An example of the new style report can be found here. A reminder that student reports are available at the end of the term in the following months:
Dynamic Progress Reporting (DPR) | To support families in further understanding how their child is making progress in each subject, we have invested in a platform which provides live information to families about strengths and areas of weakness by topic. We have released the parent codes to DPR, our new online progress reporting software. Codes were sent via email from DPR with guidance on how to login. The codes are valid for 90 days. Follow the guidance on the email to login and see your child's progress against key objectives in each subject. As we move through the academic year, teachers will be assessing against more of the objectives so you can see progress in real time. If you have any questions regarding these codes, please contact Ms Fisher, Data Manager (dfisher@liftbexleyheath.org).
Safeguarding Survey | To support us in our continued improvement, we have asked an external provider to help us gather some information about our safeguarding provisions. A link to this survey can be found in the Latest News email.
Year 07 Transitional Events | Term 01 Virtual Drop-in Sessions | Families of Year 07 students will be provided with the opportunity to meet with Ms Golding, Year Group Lead, this term. These sessions will be 15 minutes and will be virtual. The dates are as follows:-
Appointments are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis and will open a week before each event. Information on booking appointments can be found on the Parents' Evening page of the Academy's website. If you have any questions regarding our Parents' Evening’s, don't hesitate to get in touch with Ms Fisher, Data Manager: dfisher@bexleyheathacademy.org.
Safeguarding | Spice | We would like to make families aware of recent concerns about the use of a drug called “Spice” (a synthetic cannabinoid) by young people in London and across the UK. There have been reports of serious health incidents, including one death and one non-fatal overdose in the Enfield area on 02 October 2025, linked to suspected use of adulterated forms of Spice. Similar cases have been confirmed in other parts of the country, where highly potent synthetic cannabinoids have been found. Spice is a man-made drug designed to mimic cannabis, but its effects can be far stronger and unpredictable. It can sometimes appear in vapes or other substances without users realising what they are taking.
Signs of an overdose may include:
If you see these symptoms, call 999 immediately.
If you need help or support or concerned about changes in your childs behaviour and feel this could be linked to drug use, please use the following contacts to seek help:
What's been happening in DT this week? | Year 10 Engineering Design students have been expanding their creativity and technical drawing skills through an exciting introduction to two-point perspective. Using street views as their inspiration, students produced detailed architectural sketches of buildings, learning how to use vanishing points to create depth and realism. They also demonstrated their techniques to classmates, modelling the drawing process and experimenting with rendering and shading to bring their designs to life.
The students reflected on how rewarding it was to see their progress. One student shared, “At first it looked complicated, but once I understood the vanishing points, it all came together. It was really satisfying to see my buildings look 3D on the page.”
Another added, “I enjoyed learning how to make my drawings look more realistic with shading and colour.” These comments highlight not only their growing confidence but also their enthusiasm for creative problem-solving.
This project goes beyond art and design, it builds a strong foundation in proportion, geometry, and visual communication, skills that are essential in industries such as architecture, engineering, product design, and construction. By learning to express ideas clearly through drawing and presentation, students are developing valuable technical and analytical abilities that will support them in a wide range of future pathways.
Year 06 Transitions | Fantastic Food | This week, Ms Gaskin hosted an engaging Fantastic Food Tech taster session for prospective Year 06 students, with valuable support from our talented Year 10 helpers. The session offered a hands-on introduction to Food Technology, giving young chefs the chance to develop essential kitchen skills, from measuring and preparing ingredients to cooking and presenting their own dishes.
The budding cooks were guided through making homemade pizzas, learning about food preparation, hygiene, and teamwork along the way. The delicious aromas filling the Food Tech room made it clear that everyone was enjoying the experience!
A huge thank you to Ms Gaskin and our Year 10 students for making the session both educational and fun. By giving future students a taste of the practical and creative aspects of Food Tech, this event has inspired many young chefs to explore their culinary talents.
Safeguarding | WhatsApp Social Media Parent Groups | The school does not recommend the use of WhatsApp groups for parent communication. Many families find WhatsApp groups a helpful way to stay connected, share reminders, and support one another throughout the school year. These groups can be an excellent way to build a sense of community, offering quick updates about homework, trips, or school events, and helping new families feel included and informed. However, while these groups can be very useful, it’s important to be aware of the potential risks. Without clear boundaries, online group chats can sometimes become a space where false information spreads quickly or where unprofessional or unkind comments are made about staff, students, or other families. This can cause unnecessary conflict, misunderstandings, or harm to the wider school community.
If parents decide to set up a WhatsApp group, we recommend agreeing on some simple group rules to ensure it remains a safe, positive, and respectful space. For example:
Mr Whitham | Charity Run | Mr Whitham would like to share what he is doing to help beat childbood cancer. Mr Whitham said: "’I'm joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Cancer is the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK. But a child doesn’t have to die from cancer for it to take their life. Living with cancer is different for every child. It can mean countless rounds of debilitating treatment. Seeing your siblings through the windows of an isolation room. Not knowing when you’ll sleep in your own bed again. It can mean missing out on parties and playdates and trips to the park. It can mean missing the moments that make up a childhood.
But we won’t let it.
We won’t let cancer steal childhoods.
The money raised from RBC Race for the Kids will help build the Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH. A world-class facility with children at its heart. A place where children have access to play and education alongside pioneering treatments. Where families can stay together through some of the hardest moments. Where access to outdoor space is a priority, and a focus on nutrition helps fuel recovery.
This is a race I will be doing with my two children and seen in the photo. It would mean so much if you could please sponsor me and give whatever you can. My fundraising page is: https://race.gosh.org/fundraisers/danwhitham"
Mr Whitham is embracing our maxim of Community & Family!
