Free School Meals | Free School Meals (FSM) are a government funded scheme designed to ensure that children from eligible families receive a nutritious meal at school each day, at no cost to the family. This not only helps to support students’ health and concentration in lessons, but also removes the worry of having to provide money daily for school meals. Importantly, applying for FSM is completely confidential, students who receive them are not identified separately, and all meals are served in the same way as for any other student.
Submitting an application for FSM can also benefit families beyond the immediate support of a daily meal. Schools receive additional funding, known as the Pupil Premium, for every child registered for FSM. This funding is then used to provide extra resources, interventions, and opportunities that directly support students’ learning and well-being. Examples of how some of this funding is used at the school is as follows:
Even if a child prefers to bring a packed lunch, completing the FSM application ensures the school can access this vital funding, which in turn benefits the whole school community. Families are strongly encouraged to check their eligibility and complete an application if they qualify. Please review this document which outlines the criteria and links on how to apply.
Safeguarding | Online Safety & Social Media Concerns | We are aware of a number of concerning posts and online interactions that some students have recently been exposed to on social media. These include content that encourages young people to fight or engage in confrontational behaviour, trends involving the spreading of rumours and false information about others, online harassment and name-calling, the sharing of images or videos without consent, and pressure to participate in challenges that promote risky or unsafe behaviour.
These issues can have a serious impact on children and young people. They can damage friendships and reputations, increase anxiety and low self-esteem, and in some cases escalate into real-world conflict or safeguarding concerns. Online incidents can spread quickly, making it difficult for young people to escape harmful content or correct misinformation once it has been shared.
We strongly encourage families to take practical steps at home to help keep children safe online and to support responsible use of social media. In particular, parents and carers can:
When we return after the half-term break, the school will continue to reinforce these messages through assemblies, pastoral support and curriculum lessons focused on online safety, respectful communication and responsible digital behaviour. We remain committed to educating students about how to keep themselves and others safe online, and to promoting a culture where harmful behaviour, both online and offline is challenged and reported.
In response to the recent ‘Bexley Clash’ trend circulating on social media, we are asking for the full support of families in ensuring that students go straight home at the end of the school day.
Students should not remain in the local Broadway / town centre area after school or wait around to meet others. This includes waiting in groups for buses or spending time in public areas without a clear reason. Where it is identified that a student has remained in the area unnecessarily after school, a school sanction will be issued the following day.
Please note that from 15:10, responsibility for students transfers to parents and carers. We therefore ask that families ensure clear arrangements are in place for your child to travel home safely every day, including:
These measures are being put in place to help reduce the risk of students becoming involved in, or affected by, incidents linked to online trends and to support the safety of all young people in our community.
